It's been one year of living in Dumbo, and I have mixed feelings about the neighborhood. The area is a bit of a retail corridor and tourist destination, but lacking in some essentials. I can buy bespoke leather goods, or visit one of the six coffee shops in the area, but there are no supermarkets or libraries. The Christmas vacation gave me a chance to explore a bit more, and I did find some arts organizations located in Dumbo, so there is some hope yet.

City of the rose
Erie Basin at night is nearly deserted, which is strange considering that a big box Ikea is situated adjacent to the waterfront area. Lately I have found it to be a bit of a personal getaway, a place to be alone. Dotted on the water are ships of varying disrepair, some tended to by dock workers and longshoremen. They hardly register my existence when I bike past, and I am invisible.

Maybe tonight
The close of the year brings absolution, and the possibility to start anew. For myself, it has been a year of tumultuous change, though time has yet to pass to allow clarity on whether these changes will prove positive. In the meanwhile, we can only be ever forward moving and be better.
